It looks like Donavan Harris of Armor Inc. Diesel & Suspension is making a comeback and has some very BIG plans for next year’s Ultimate Callout Challenge. Dynomite Diesel Product’s Lenny Reed dropped the bombshell news on Facebook last week, along with a shot of the TH400 Harris will be running. Built at Midgets Diesel Performance, the three-speed automatic sports a 1-1/4-inch input shaft and a bolt-together, lockup converter. Plans to avoid having any torque-related problems in the TH400/4x4 application include making the truck extremely light and spinning the Cummins power plant in front of it as high as 6,800 rpm. Don’t miss U.C.C. ’26…

Remember when variable geometry turbochargers used to be a big no-no in truck pulling, compound arrangements, and virtually every application where big power was the goal? So do we. But it’s a new world these days, and Dan’s Diesel Performance is showing everyone why. The company’s Work Stock class Duramax puller, an ’05 Silverado packing a 72mm VGT with a 9-blade turbine wheel (remote mounted for R&D and serviceability purposes) dominated a recent hook in Brooklyn, Wisconsin. During the pull, boost peaked at 58 psi while drive pressure maxed out at just 70 psi.

Although it’s a major pattern failure on any 6.7L Cummins, VGT actuators aren’t the only weak link on these Holset units. When a 2020 Ram rolled into Adam Shyrock’s shop, it was discovered that the VGT was bypassing oil into the truck’s exhaust system—leading to this performance-hindering, post-turbo carbon buildup. Bad turbo seals cause this type of failure, and it’s a problem that not only restricts exhaust flow but can also rapidly increase engine oil consumption. A good cleaning, a thorough inspection, and a couple of fresh seals later and this variable vane Holset was up to snuff again.

When Tyler Stacy isn’t haunting the ranks of the 7.70 Index field in the Outlaw Diesel Super Series, you can usually find his third-gen Cummins in the dirt. And by dirt, we mean sled pulls and dirt drags. Tyler entered the latter form of competition last week, running with KOI Drag Racing and racing in its Hot Street Diesel and Mod Diesel classes. With a proven power recipe and loads of experience on a tree at his disposal, it’s no surprise that Tyler took the win in both categories. Better yet, he drove the regular cab Dodge to and from the dirt drags and didn’t even air down to compete.

The on going release of the new GTD's has been a fun one to follow. If you're not following Mustang GTD Registry on Instagram, check out the link below for more on the GTD releases. It's a great page for Mustang fans. Among other GTD news, the page shares many GTD's as they're ready to send out to their owners from the factory. No owner info is available, but we get to see what's been made and often times where the cars are being shipped to. The latest rarity from Ford is this yellow GTD. It is not a factory offered color, so the assumption is that it was a custom color order by the owner. For a price tag STARTING at $325k, custom color options should definitely be available. We'll keep a lookout for the fun and new stuff of course, but do yourself a favor and go check out Mustang GTD Registry. No they're not paying us to promote them, it's just a great page for GTD fans.

Kyle Wood is an engineer outside of the automotive world by day—but he should probably look into doing custom fabrication work on the side… The compound turbo piping he fab'd up for his 12-valve Cummins swap project is nothing short of a work of art. The system revolves around an S363/S475 arrangement and the use of recirculating wastegates that employ 90-degree bend standoffs to help promote improved flow. The wastegate merge was metal 3D printed out of 316L, and all tubing is 304 stainless. Kyle also opted for the pie-cut look over mandrel bends, and we’d say he nailed it. The best part? His compound turbo 12-valve is destined to power a Dentside Ford.
