Inside The UCC-Winning Transmission

Automatic transmission technology and expertise has come a long, long way over the years—especially for the infamous Chrysler 48RE. To showcase how well his four-speed slushbox held up at the Ultimate Callout Challenge, 2026 champion, Myer Stump, recently disassembled and inspected his. What he found was very little debris in the pan, a rollerrized planetary and intermediate shaft in perfect condition, and forward clutches and steels that appeared brand-new. As expected (and primarily due to using the trans-brake), hot spots were present on the Direct steels but, thanks to never using Overdrive (aside from a couple 2,600hp test hits prior to arriving at UCC) the Overdrive clutches were completely unscathed. Pro Tip takeaway: Myer doubles up on trans filters (which really helps in case of catastrophic torque converter failure).

Every option, and only 500 miles. Going to auction.

An almost untouched 2006 Ford GT is headed to auction with fewer than 500 miles and all four factory options. That means the McIntosh stereo, forged BBS wheels, painted racing stripes and red brake calipers—the complete spec collectors tend to chase. Underneath, it is still the car that made the original GT special: a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing 550 horsepower, a Ricardo six-speed manual and very little electronic interference. Low-mile Ford GTs have become serious collector pieces, but this one stands out because it is exactly how most buyers would have ordered one when new.

A New Tractor Class Is Coming To SDX 30

Things are getting interesting for the 30th Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. For the first time in event history, a 12,500-pound Open Farm tractor class will be run. Key rules limit tractors to 3,000 rpm, 20.8x38 or 18.4x42 tires, a 20-inch hitch height, and being stock-appearing, but no limitations exist on (single) turbo size, plate steel wheels are allowed, and double cut tires are permitted (with the caveat for cuts being an 11,000-pound weight limit). Limited to 15 tractors, the class will take to the track at 11 am on Saturday, August 29th and run alongside Limited Pro Stock diesel truck and Pro Street diesel truck class qualifying.

Upcoming Event: Hoosier State Showdown

Just one week after SDX, the 17th annual Fleece Performance Hoosier State Showdown will commence 60 miles up the road in North Salem, Indiana. Here, the Labor Day weekend affair is known to attract some of the strongest running Limited Pro Stock and Pro Street diesel trucks in the country. However, this year a third truck class has been added—and it’s a fan favorite. How about Super Stock diesel trucks? That’s right, the multi-turbo, cut-tire mechanical behemoths will invade smalltown Indiana on Saturday September 5th, with several big names already committing to the lineup. Be there!

Serious Speed—With A VP44-Fueled Dodge

Drew Carter has shipped his 6-second 24-valve Cummins off to its new, temporary home at East Coast Performance Center. There, at the company’s Milford, Delaware facility, it will be fitted with a Loganbuilt Transmission & Race Fab four-link suspension arrangement, V-bands all the way around, and a host of other (more subtle, yet necessary) upgrades. Drew’s current goal is to move past the VP44-fueled second-gen’s 6-second eighth-mile ETs and into the 5’s. His ultimate mission is to lay claim to the title of quickest (and fastest) VP44 in the land. Stay tuned…

EPA: American Truckers Will Save $12 Billion With Proposed 2027 Emissions Regulation Revisions

It’s a huge number, but one the current EPA says is possible. By relaxing select provisions within the 2027 emission requirements for heavy-duty on-highway diesels (including useful life and emission warranty periods, along with driver “inducement” stipulations for SCR-equipped vehicles), the agency says $6,000 can be saved per new truck purchase. The EPA went on to say that the relaxation of 2027 standards would stop the productivity losses many operators suffer when SCR-related power derates and failures take them off the road. Collectively, the agency states that $12 Billion can be saved by implementing the proposed revisions.
