Ford’s Four-Door Mustang, More Like A Panamera? 

A four-door Mustang still sounds a little wrong. But apparently Ford knows that, because dealers who’ve seen the thing say it’s closer to a Porsche Panamera than some stretched-out Mustang sedan. Think low roof, sportback shape, real back seats and still very much a performance car. Reports also point toward a starting price under $40,000 with EcoBoost power, and quicker versions capable of sub-four-second 0-60 runs. A V8 seems like the obvious way to get there, though Ford hasn’t confirmed the powertrains yet. If they can pull that off without watering down the Mustang part, this could actually work.

900+ RWHP Out Of A VP44 Cummins

Joey Yates had a bit of fun on the dyno recently, with his 24-valve second-gen making a lot of noise on Bean Machine’s rollers. How about 912-rwhp and 1,682 lb-ft of torque from a VP44-fueled 5.9L and a good ghetto fogging! Fuel only, Joey’s old Dodge laid down a respectable 728 hp at the wheels. With a few more adjustments on the tuning side of things, he plans to return to the dyno, crack open the bottle again and join the 1,000hp club. Joey’s pump of choice is the proven Lightning VP44 offered by Scheid Diesel. For tuning, custom calibrating from Carter Racing—available via a Quadzilla Adrenaline—gets the job done.

Did Caterpillar Get Forced Out Of The Trucking Industry?

Have you ever questioned the real reason Caterpillar withdrew from the on-highway diesel segment? The folks at Heavymatic released a great video covering this very subject last week. It covers why and how EPA emission standards stymied diesel engine technology and all but forced CAT to leave the on-highway business. But was it the stringent PM and NOx regulations that ultimately killed the presence of “yellow” big-rig engines, or was it simply a cost-effective business move on the part of the global engine builder? Super Stock Diesel Trucks Invade Iowa

The 4x4 Super Stock Diesel Trucks made their way to Rockwell, Iowa late last week for the NTPA Grand National North Iowa Nationals. Thursday night, it was Todd Dugan who drove his way to glory—and not once but twice. First Place went to Todd’s “Angry Farmer” Ford with a 382.51-foot hook, and he also piloted the “Angry Shine” Chevrolet to a Second Place distance of 371.32-feet, just ahead of Shane Kellogg’s “Trump.” Dugan would turn in a strong performance on Saturday as well (behind the wheel of Angry Farmer), but it wasn’t enough to catch Cummins Killer III’s 365.45-foot blast (video below).

One Tough 5.9L: 273,000 Miles On 700 HP Worth Of Abuse

You know the saying “It owes me nothing.” Well, nothing could be closer to the truth for Tyler Stacy’s 5.9L common-rail Cummins. The legendary I-6 in his ’06 Dodge survived 273,000 miles, much of it under the harsh abuse of hooking to the sled, drag racing to the tune of 7.70s in the 1/8-mile, and competing in the local dirt drags before it finally checked out. Now, the Stacy Motorsports third-gen is receiving a 6.7L transplant and hitting the track again. The goal is to have the regular cab all wrapped for this coming Sunday’s local truck pull in Waterford, Pennsylvania.

Senate Resolution Challenges California Vehicle & Engine Mandates

The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) supports and has shed a much-needed light on the U.S. Senate’s Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolutions to overturn California’s vehicle and engine mandates. According to AFPM President and CEO, Chet Thompson, the current Congress has already rejected the state’s efforts to all but force its vehicle policies (which favor BEV’s) on the other 49 states, but California continues to try to advance its agenda anyway. The CRA resolutions aim to overturn California’s Advanced Clean Cars I waiver, the Advanced Clean Cars I waiver reinstatement, the 2009 Greenhouse Gas waiver, and the Small Off-Road Engine (SORE) rule.
