It’s no secret that custom ECM revisions are all the rage in the diesel industry. With advancements in the automotive industry and the help of some really intelligent calibrators, these devices are capable of turning a truck from mild to wild within the turn of a knob, literally.
Until the last few years, truck owners were tied to their vehicles and computers if they needed file changes. Yes, wifi existed but no one had yet to use it within the automotive truck market, at least not to the extent this company was. Enter EZ Lynk. In mid 2016, EZ Lynk was introduced and the truck market was forever changed. Calibration revisions could now be sent within minutes as well as datalogs. This was a total game changer.
WHAT DO I GET?
In mid-2018, 2 years after the initial introduction to market, the EZ Lynk Auto Agent was already replaced with the 2.0 unit, an updated unit which now included electronic data logging (ELD) capabilities for over the road & fleet services.
Included in the EZ Lynk Auto Agent packaging, you will find the Auto Agent device, OBDII cable, a Cummins unlock cable (labeled as such), and a universal phone mount.
The only thing that may deter some from using this system is the lack of display. However, the positive though is that the user can either elect to use their own phone, a spare phone, or a tablet. All that is needed is the ability to download the Auto Agent app, a valid email address, and an internet connection, either via your phone or wifi.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Auto Agent device acts as a Wi-Fi router that understands your vehicle’s language, Controller Area Network (CAN), which is all of the communication between modules. When plugged into the vehicle’s OBD II port, this router-like connection creates a wireless access point that sends information from the CAN network to your iOS or Android device. It broadcasts a wireless access point which allows your device to be directly linked to your vehicle.
Once the connection is created all of the vehicle’s identifiers (year, make, model, VIN, ECM & TCM strategy, etc) are populated and available to send off to a calibrator.
At this point you can link up to your desired calibrator, should you choose. After linking, either via email or device serial number, the calibrator can then activate the calibration profiles which will populate under your “Profiles” tab. Once a calibration is received, you can fetch it from the cloud (where all of the linked calibrations are stored) and upload it to the ECM.
Another nice feature is that your profile can be accessed with any iOS or Android device as long as you can download the app. For example, if you were to lose your phone you can simply get another phone, download the app, login using your username & password and all of your profiles will remain the same. Additionally, you can use the same Auto Agent device to link to multiple vehicles. In fact, there’s no limit to the number of vehicles you can connect too. The only cost associated would be for additional support packs.
Some of the biggest benefits to the EZ Lynk over other devices is the instant calibration access and data logging capabilities. These features are ideal for someone testing or competing at the drag strip where the need for quick file changes is important. The calibrator can link you as many files as necessary and remain on standby adjusting ECM maps based on the data logged information sent to them.
The datalog feature is unlike anything else currently on the market at this point and using it is a breeze. Within the dashboard, where the gauges lie, there’s a small red record button. Simply hit record and the device captures the CAN language in real time which can be sent to your calibrator. When recording, be sure to select relevant PIDs/gauges to the issue in question. This will make the calibrator (or mechanic’s) job that much easier. For example, if there’s a transmission issue you should include PIDs such as throttle position, RPM, gear commanded, TCC, vehicle speed, OSS (output shaft speed), & engine load.
Additionally, this feature can be used to record intermittent driveability issues and the data can either be sent to your calibrator, your mechanic, or played back by you within the app. Please note, your mechanic should be the first line of contact if you develop any new issues or codes unless they occur within a short period of time (i.e. 24-48 hours after an ECM file has been installed).
EZ Lynk can also read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). These codes can be found under the “DTC” tab in the main menu. Most codes do include a short description as well.
One of the most unique features with the EZ Lynk is the ability to use your phone as a monitoring device. The dashboard tab allows you to select between three layouts which include, tiles, gauges, and graphs. You can monitor up to 8 gauges at once depending on the view selected. You’re also able to rearrange the tiles and gauges in an order that makes sense for you. With over 25 PIDs to monitor, you’ll be sure to have good data on what’s going every second your vehicle is running.
Firmware updates are pushed out fairly frequently so you always have the most recent software and quick bug fixes. Updates are automatically prompted when an internet connection is present. Calibrators can also send file updates either one at a time or to all users of a particular file. This is both convenient for the calibrator as well as the end user.

EZ Lynk is a great device for monitoring, diagnostics, & ECM/TCM programming most late model diesel pickups and more vehicles are being added to it each month. The device works well for all users, from calibrator to mechanics to the end consumer.
